Personal Best: Bigger Is Better, Except When It’s Not
Understanding why body size matters in certain sports can open your eyes to other possibilities, exercise researchers say.
Consider your body type when selecting your workouts.
Certain workouts or sports are much easier for some people due due to height, weight, and strength differences. Typically, only those with the optimal size and weight for that sport will excel.
Also, when you are extremely tall or overweight it is best to start with low impact cardio exercises when implementing an exercise program. Until you have strengthened your joints enough with weight training and/or lost weight, you must be careful when performing high impact exercises due to your size. For example, when you run you have to pick up an excess amount of weight with each step when overweight. While this is not bad in itself, ensure your joints can handle this type of impact.
